Azwar is a lawyer based in Lahore currently working at the law firm RIAA Barker Gillette as a senior associate. His main areas of practice include project finance, corporate matters, regulatory compliance, labour disputes, legislative drafting, and dispute resolution.
In July 2022, he was called to the Bar of England & Wales by Lincoln's Inn. He achieved an overall distinction in Bar Vocational Studies, and was awarded the Worshipful Company of Arbitrators Prize for obtaining the highest aggregate marks in the International Commercial Trade and International Dispute Resolution specialisms. Azwar holds an undergraduate degree from the University of California, Berkeley in political economy.
Azwar was the recipient of the inaugural Fakhruddin G Ebrahim Fellowship by the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) where he researched the rights implications of human smuggling in Pakistan. Recently, Azwar worked with HRCP as a consultant to co-author a report on the draft Punjab Labour Code with Dr. Adnan Sattar, Assistant Professor, SAHSOL. The report analyses the compatibility of the Code against the touchstone of the ILO core conventions and the fundamental rights enshrined in the Constitution of Pakistan. Azwar also works with HRCP on the issue of curbs on freedom of expression, with the aim to examine the role of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act 2016. He conducts regular advocacy sessions, stakeholder consultations, and press conferences on these issues.
He also serves as a consultant and trainer for the International Organization for Migration (IOM) where he delivers training sessions on safe and regular migration pathways to civil society organizations and governmental agencies. Apart from this, Azwar writes regularly on legal and socio-political topics for various national and international newspapers and magazines, including Foreign Policy, Dawn and The News.
Azwar has previously served in SAHSOL as a guest lecturer and speaker on various panels. In Fall 2026, he will be joining SAHSOL as adjunct faculty and will teach a course on civil procedure titled Law 471.
